Best School Holiday Activities for 4-7 Year Olds

We know your kids will be excited for the school holidays - and we also know it can leave many parents stressed, wondering what to do to keep them occupied!Boredom-busting school holiday activities don’t have to break the bank or involve sitting indoors stuck on devices. Here are five easy, low-cost activities you can easily plan with your kids.

We know the weather across Melbourne can keep us on our toes, so there’s a good mix here to choose from, regardless of what the weather is doing!

5 great activities for the school holidays

  1. Head out on a nature walk.

We’re lucky to have access to a range of parks and nature areas spread around Melbourne. Pick a local favourite, or why not head a little further afield for a new adventure?

Make it fun for your little ones by planning some activities along the way. How many birds can they spot, and can they identify what they are? What about other flora and fauna?

Have them pack a small sketchpad and pencil to draw and make notes of what they see and find along the way. Why not invite some of their friends along too and make a playdate of it?

  1. Set up a craft station and get creative.

Craft stations don’t have to be expensive.

Start by covering a table or surface in your home with butcher’s paper or any old wrapping paper you have lying around. Then, grab any pencils, crayons, or other colouring utensils you have around the house and set them up on the paper. Add a collage station with old books, magazines, or newspapers and child-friendly scissors, or simply encourage your children to tear out the pictures they like. Have lots of different sizes and shapes of paper on hand, and let your kids' imaginations go wild!

Running low on craft materials? Your local op shops are a great place to hunt down what you’ll need. Take the kids and make a treasure hunt of it.

  1. Visit a local museum, library or art gallery.

Many museums, libraries, and art galleries have child-friendly activities, and during the school holidays, most will also have an extra program of activities for a wide range of ages!

These can be great learning opportunities and help spark new curiosities in your kids, ready to share with their friends and teachers when they head back to school.

From child-focused tours to art activities, story time, and parent meet-ups, there’s something for everyone. Visit the websites of your local venues to see what’s on.

  1. Plan a sun-safe beach day.

As we head into the warmer months, planning a beach day out is the perfect time! Pack a picnic, bring your swimwear and some towels, and head to one of Melbourne’s many beaches.

We love Brighton Beach for its beautiful blue water, sandy shores and fun, colourful boatsheds, but there’s plenty more to explore.

Just don’t forget the sunscreen and remember to slip, slap, slop!

The site is easy to use, making it simple to find your favourite games https://wildjokercasino.co.com/ and begin playing right away. I was ecstatic because of their generous welcome bonus and regular rewards for returning players, which truly improved the experience.
